Living in Wolf Hall: what to know before you pack
The room
Wolf Hall is the other half of the Pollock Phase 1 pair — same $92M renovation, same Fall 2026 debut, same brand-new everything. Rooms are traditional doubles with completely updated bathrooms and mechanical systems. Penn State furnishes the bed frame, XL twin mattress (80"×36"), desk, chair, dresser, closet, and window blinds. Your shopping list should cover bedding, a desk lamp, a fan, a shower caddy, a surge protector, and towels.
Day to day
Wolf's central campus location is one of its biggest selling points — students can reach Old Main, the HUB-Robeson Center, and most of the major academic buildings faster than almost anyone living in East Halls. Pollock dining is on-site, so daily meals are walkable. Like Ritner, Wolf has community bathrooms on each floor, and they're fully renovated with new fixtures and tile.
Move-in day
Move-in is mid-to-late August. Wolf and Ritner share the Pollock Halls campus, so the move-in logistics are similar — review Penn State's vehicle window assignments ahead of time, because the Pollock area isn't set up for a free-for-all unload. Your student will be part of the first class ever to live in the renovated Wolf Hall.
Wolf Hall FAQ
- Does Wolf Hall have air conditioning?
- Yes. Wolf Hall's $92M renovation included full central air conditioning throughout the building — brand-new mechanical systems, not a retrofit. Every room is climate-controlled from day one. You do not need to bring a portable cooling unit, and personal AC equipment is prohibited under Penn State's housing policy. A small personal fan is still worth packing if your student prefers air movement in the room, but it's for circulation rather than cooling. The central system handles the actual temperature.
- Can I bring my own mini-fridge to Wolf Hall?
- No. Penn State bans personal mini-fridges and personal microwaves in all residence halls, including Wolf. Violations are fineable. The only approved option is the campus MicroFridge rental program — a combined fridge-microwave unit that's delivered before move-in and removed at checkout. Book it early; they sell out.
- How is Wolf Hall's location relative to classes?
- Wolf is one of the better-positioned freshman halls on campus for getting to class. Pollock Halls sit closer to the core academic area than East Halls, so students with early classes in buildings like Thomas, Willard, or Sparks have a noticeably shorter walk. The difference is real in winter — Penn State's campus is large and exposed, and shaving several minutes off a 7 a.m. walk matters more than it sounds. Warnock Commons dining is also on-site, so meals don't require crossing campus.
- What should my student bring for the bathroom?
- Wolf Hall has shared community bathrooms, one per floor, with newly renovated showers and fixtures from the $92M renovation. These are completely new facilities, but they're still shared with an entire floor of residents. Bring a shower caddy with a handle — something they can carry from their room to the shower stall — plus flip-flops for the shower floor, a microfiber towel that dries quickly between uses, and a compact toiletry bag. A robe or cover-up for the walk back to the room is also useful.
