DormMoveIn publishes verified packing checklists for 109 residence halls across Brown University, Penn State, UC Berkeley, Ohio State, NYU, UT Austin, Texas A&M, University of Florida, Boston University, and UCLA. Every checklist is cross-referenced against each school’s official housing website and updated annually. Checklists are free and include room dimensions, what the school provides, banned items, and verified product recommendations.

I’m Harish — a parent who went through freshman move-in and learned the hard way that generic “dorm packing lists” get the basics wrong. They don’t know your hall’s bed dimensions, what’s already in the room, or what the housing policy prohibits. We bought things that didn’t fit. We forgot things the school would have provided. So I built the site I wish had existed.

How we verify

Every hall page starts with the school’s official residential life or housing website. Bed dimensions, under-bed clearance, provided furnishings, and prohibited items are sourced directly from official documents — not third-party aggregators or student forums. Sources are cited and linked on every hall page, along with the date the information was last verified. When schools update their housing policies or room configurations, we update the checklist.

Product recommendations come after the data, not before. We select items that match the verified room specs — the right mattress topper for a 36″×80″ bed, storage bins that fit an 11″ under-bed clearance. No item is added to a checklist because of its affiliate commission.
