Weymouth Hall Dorm Checklist 2026

Texas Tech University

Double room, community bathrooms

Weymouth is a co-ed, built-in-furniture hall. Furniture is bolted in place, so nothing can be rearranged or raised. Unlike its connected twin Chitwood, Weymouth's page carries no freshman-only language. Windows are sealed shut.

Living in Weymouth Hall: what to know before you pack

The room

Weymouth rooms run about 14 by 10 feet of floor space with built-in, non-movable furniture bolted to the wall: a 39in x 80in twin XL pull-out bed with bolsters (77in wide) and an overhead shelf, three built-in drawers giving 12in of under-bed storage, a bookcase built into the wall above the 41in-wide by 35in-deep desk, a chest of drawers, and a closet 43in wide by 31in deep with 80in of interior height. There's a sink and a medicine cabinet with mirror in the room itself. Because the furniture is fixed, roommates can't rearrange the layout, raise beds, or swap desk positions — what you see on move-in day is what you live with all year, and the ceiling is 8ft, lower than the 9ft in the movable-furniture halls.

Day to day

Bathrooms are community-style — Texas Tech's Residence Hall Selection Guide lists Weymouth under "Traditional Halls (Community Bathrooms)." Weymouth is co-ed and connects directly to Chitwood Hall and the shared Chitwood/Weymouth Learning Center, plus a TV lounge and free limitless laundry lounges. Ol' Red's, in the nearby Wiggins Complex, is the closest dining option. The hall houses both the First Year Success and First Gen learning communities, so the social culture skews heavily toward incoming first-time freshmen navigating their first semester together.

Move-in day

Weymouth move-in follows Texas Tech's universal Tech-In schedule — Fall 2026 arrivals run August 20-23 on a pre-selected timeslot to manage traffic and check-in lines. The hall sits on the southwest side of campus near the College of Architecture and the Law School, close to the Education and Media and Communication buildings, with Ol' Red's and the Wiggins Complex as the nearest unload/dining landmarks. Because beds and desks are built in, move-in day is mostly about linens, storage bins, and personal items rather than assembling furniture — and TTU asks families to unbox bulky items like microwaves and mini-fridges before loading the car.

For quad hangs, tailgates, and games on damp grass

Weymouth Hall FAQ

Is Weymouth Hall only for freshmen?
Not formally. Weymouth houses the First Year Success Learning Community, which Texas Tech describes as serving "first-time freshman students," plus the First Gen Learning Community — but unlike the page for its connected twin Chitwood, Weymouth's own page carries no freshman-only restriction. In practice the population is overwhelmingly first-year.
Can I loft or raise my bed in Weymouth?
No. The bed is a built-in pull-out unit bolted to the wall furniture — it has a fixed height and cannot be raised, rearranged, or bunked, unlike movable-furniture halls such as Sneed or Bledsoe. Under-bed space is three built-in drawers with 12in of height, not open clearance for bins.
Does Weymouth have private bathrooms?
No — Texas Tech's Residence Hall Selection Guide groups Weymouth with the Traditional Halls that use community bathrooms, not the suite- or apartment-style halls with semi-private ones.
Is Weymouth Hall a good hall to live in?
That depends on what you're optimizing for, but here's what's verified: Weymouth Hall has 39in x 80in Twin XL beds with Fixed height only (built-in, non-movable) of under-bed storage, and is fully air conditioned. Texas Tech University provides Built-in pullout bed, bed bolster and shelf, desk and chair, built-in bookcase above desk, chest of drawers, closet with overhead storage, sink, medicine cabinet with mirror, bulletin board, window blinds in every room. Compare those specifics against your priorities — or see how Weymouth Hall stacks up against Texas Tech University's other halls above.
