UTA Freshman Dorms 2026

UTA doesn't require students to live on campus, but First-Time-In-College (FTIC) students who apply early get priority hall and room selection. All four first-year halls have central AC for North Texas summers, and most rooms include a Housing-provided MicroFridge combo. Fall 2026 move-in starts August 12. Common questions about UTA dorms

Do UTA dorms require living on campus?
No — UT Arlington does not have a live-on housing requirement for any student, including freshmen. First-Time-In-College (FTIC) students who apply early get priority assignment and first pick of hall and room type, but housing itself is optional. UTA reports higher academic success and satisfaction among students who choose to live on campus. If you do live on campus, a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester keeps your assignment active, and a No-Show Day Housing Application exists for last-minute openings after move-in.
What is UTA's FTIC priority housing deadline for Fall 2026?
FTIC students must submit a completed housing application before May 1, 2026 to receive priority assignment and choose a specific hall and room type. Those who apply by that date must then complete their housing contract by May 15, 2026 to keep that priority status. Miss either date and your application is still accepted, but it's processed first-come-first-served alongside continuing students rather than with FTIC priority.
What size are UTA dorm beds?
Twin XL in three of the four first-year halls — Arlington, KC, and Vandergriff — all height-adjustable using hall-office-approved pegs, from about 1 foot up to 3 feet 6 inches off the floor. Maverick Hall, UTA's newest hall (opened Fall 2025), is the exception: its beds are full-size, not Twin XL, so check which hall you're assigned before buying sheets. Maverick's bed height and loft/riser policy aren't published anywhere official, so treat any third-party claim about lofting there with caution until UTA Housing confirms it directly.
Can I bring a mini-fridge or microwave to UTA?
UTA Housing provides a MicroFridge combo unit (up to 4.3 cubic feet) in your room, and Housing does not accept shipments of additional personal furniture or appliances beyond what's issued. Check your specific hall's page before buying a separate mini-fridge or microwave — the provided combo unit is meant to cover both needs.
When does UTA Fall 2026 move-in start?
Primary move-in day is Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., with student-volunteer help available until 3 p.m. If you can't make the main day, there's an additional check-in window Thursday through Sunday, August 13-16, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Plan around the Wednesday window if you want volunteer move-in help — it isn't available during the extended check-in days.
