What size are Sam Houston State dorm beds?

It depends on your hall. Piney Woods, San Jacinto, and Lone Star all use a fixed-height Twin XL frame (36 by 80 inches) — buy bedding labeled Twin XL, not standard twin. Jackson-Shaver is the exception: it uses full-size beds, so Twin XL sheets won't fit and you need full-size sheets instead. None of these frames raise or loft — SHSU bans homemade and commercial loft structures campus-wide — though San Jacinto's beds can be stacked bunk-style through Residence Life Maintenance if your roommate situation calls for it. Confirm your hall assignment before you buy sheets.

Do I need a mini-fridge at SHSU?

Usually no. Piney Woods, San Jacinto, and Lone Star all include an in-room microwave/fridge unit or a full refrigerator plus kitchenette, and Jackson-Shaver separately provides both a mini fridge and a microwave in every room — notable because microwaves are otherwise banned from SHSU dorm rooms except in the halls that specifically supply one.

When is Sam Houston State move-in for fall 2026?

First-year move-in runs August 13-14, 2026, by scheduled appointment. That's not your real deadline, though — Bearkat Kickoff runs August 14-18, and every first-year must be checked into their hall by 5pm on Tuesday, August 18, ahead of Convocation that evening and First Class Day on August 19.
