The UT Austin dorm bed size is XL Twin (38"×80") in all residence halls. Standard twin sheets won't fit — they're made for the 75-inch standard length, and the UT mattress runs 80 inches long. Buy bedding labeled Twin XL or Extra-Long Twin specifically. Do UT Austin dorms have air conditioning?

Yes — all 10 freshman halls have central AC, which is not optional in Austin. Move-in falls in late August when temperatures in Austin regularly hit 100°F or above, and central air in every room is one of the most important comfort factors UT gets right. Personal portable AC units are still prohibited — you can't add your own on top of the building system — but you won't need one. The provided cooling is building-wide and reliable. A desk fan for circulating air is still a good idea.

Can I bring a mini-fridge or microwave to UT Austin?

No — and you don't need to. UT provides a MicroFridge combo unit in every freshman room, combining a microwave and a mini-fridge in a single appliance already installed when you arrive. Personal mini-fridges and personal microwaves are both prohibited on top of the provided unit. The MicroFridge is assigned to your room, not rented separately, and you use it for the full academic year. Don't pay for a fridge or microwave before you get to campus — it's already there.

Can I bring string lights or LED lights to UT Austin?
