UT Austin Dorm Checklist 2026

UT Austin houses freshmen across 10 residence halls on North and South campus — all with central AC for Austin's brutal August heat. Every room comes with a MicroFridge combo already installed. Move-in starts August 19. Pick your hall for verified room data.

Pick your residence hall

Each hall has its own checklist sized to that exact room.

What’s in every room — and what isn’t

Every UTfreshman hall includes the same base furnishings. Here’s what you can skip buying, what you’ll need to bring, and what’s banned.

UT provides a MicroFridge combo unit in every room — do not bring a personal mini-fridge or microwave. Both are prohibited.

String lights, rope lights, and holiday lights are prohibited by UT fire code — even LEDs. Leave them at home.

Common questions about UT Austin dorms

What size bed does UT Austin use?
All UT residence halls use XL Twin beds (38"×80"). Standard twin sheets won't fit — buy bedding labeled "Twin XL" or "Extra-Long Twin" specifically.
Do UT Austin dorms have air conditioning?
Yes — all 10 freshman halls have central AC. This is non-negotiable in Austin where move-in temperatures regularly hit 100°F. Personal AC units are still prohibited, but you won't need one.
Can I bring a mini-fridge or microwave to UT Austin?
No. UT provides a MicroFridge combo unit (microwave + mini-fridge in one) in every single room. Personal mini-fridges and personal microwaves are both prohibited. The provided unit is yours to use for the year.
Can I bring string lights or LED lights to UT Austin?
No. String lights, rope lights, and holiday lights are prohibited by UT fire code — including LED versions. This catches a lot of students off guard. Skip them entirely.
When does UT Austin move-in start?
Early check-in runs August 19–22, 2026 (extra $100/day charge). Standard move-in is August 23–24 at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, 7 a.m.–6 p.m. Classes begin August 26.
