Living in Pentland Hills: what to know before you pack
The room
Each Pentland Hills suite combines four double-occupancy rooms with two toilet rooms, two shower rooms, and a shared living room that has its own microwave and refrigerator, per UCR's official hall page -- on top of the extra-long twin bed, desk and chair, dresser and closet, in-room microwave and mini-fridge, utilities, and high-speed internet confirmed on UCR's Room Amenities list, plus the air conditioning and heating confirmed for this hall on UCR's amenities chart. That chart marks stoves at Pentland Hills as "Some Available," the only such marking among the four halls, so don't assume every suite has one. Note that while the hall page describes suites as four doubles, UCR's own boilerplate says triple-occupancy is the most common arrangement in the residence halls and its 2026-27 rate calculator prices single, double, and triple assignments here -- treat the four-double layout as the standard, not a guarantee. Day to day
Pentland Hills is described by UCR as its first all-suites community, spread across 17 buildings and housing 1,200+ residents -- the largest of the four residence hall communities by UCR's own published counts. It's a coed community with same-gender suites, except in the Stonewall Living-Learning Community, which offers gender-inclusive assignments. Its Community Features list confirms a computer lab, study and television lounges, a fitness center, and Amazon Lockers, and the brochure amenities chart adds 24-Hour Assistance and Elevators. UCR's official Fall 2026 Residence Halls Move-In window is September 19 & 20, 2026, with Pentland Hills' exact date and check-in time announced by Housing Services beforehand -- UCR distributes room assignment and move-in information on September 1, and your first meal is dinner with your hallmates on your move-in date. Because Pentland Hills spans 17 separate low-rise buildings under a single published address (1 Pentland Way), confirm your specific building assignment and its drop-off point with Housing Services rather than assuming you can pull up to your door; UCR's move-in detail pages were not publicly reachable at the time of writing, so treat Housing Services as the authority on unloading logistics. On-site parking is marked Not Available for Pentland Hills on UCR's amenities chart, and UCR's FAQ states first-year residents are not allowed to bring a vehicle to campus at all, with only an appeal process through UCR Transportation.
