San Jose State Freshman Dorms 2026

San Jose State suspended its Frosh Live-On requirement for the 2026-2027 academic year only, citing an increase in online course offerings, so no first-year student is required to live on campus this year. Students who do live on campus choose from two 1960s-era Classics halls — Joe West Hall (no air conditioning, two elevators) and Washburn Hall (air-conditioned, no elevator) — plus two Campus Village towers, Campus Village 2 and Campus Village C. All four require a mandatory meal plan and open together for Fall 2026 move-in on August 15-16.

What to bring to San Jose Statedorms — and what’s already there

Every SJSUfreshman hall includes the same base furnishings. Skip anything already in your room, pack what’s missing, and leave the banned items at home.

The Frosh Live-On requirement is suspended only for the 2026-2027 academic year due to increased online coursework — not a permanent change.

Beds may only be bunked, lofted, or lowered through a maintenance work order; residents may not reconfigure a bed themselves.

SJSU's long-range Campus Village 3 plan calls for eventually demolishing Joe West Hall and Washburn Hall for a new dorm tower, though the project has no confirmed timeline as of 2026.
