CSULB Freshman Dorms 2026
CSULB dropped its first-year live-on requirement in Fall 2020 — incoming students must tell university housing where they'll be living, but on-campus residence itself isn't mandatory. Housing is split across three residential villages (Hillside, Parkside, and the off-site Beachside Village), and per HRL's own FAQ, about half of all beds are in air-conditioned buildings, so your hall assignment determines whether AC is part of the deal. Fall 2026 move-in runs August 20-21.

Common questions about CSULB dorms
- Are the residence halls air conditioned?
- "About half of our beds are in Air Conditioned Buildings." Only Parkside North, Los Alamitos, Los Cerritos, and Beachside Village's Atlantic and Pacific Halls have AC — Hillside's A-F Halls and International House do not.
- Can I bring my own air conditioner?
- No — students are not permitted to bring their own AC units. The building electrical infrastructure can't support the added load, and improperly installed units create safety hazards.
- Is there a first-year housing requirement?
- No. Since Fall 2020 there is no first-year residential requirement — however, first-year students are required to inform university housing where they will be living during their first year.
- What size mattress should I buy sheets for?
- Every CSULB residence hall bed uses a Twin XL mattress (80" x 38" x 7.5"), confirmed on Hillside, Los Alamitos/Los Cerritos, and Beachside Village's own floor-plan documents.
- What furnishings are already in my room?
- Every room comes with a bed and mattress, dresser, desk, chair, wastebasket, closet, mirror, and a MicroFridge combo unit — personal refrigerators, microwaves, and hot plates aren't permitted since the MicroFridge is already provided.
