Living in Dundee: what to know before you pack
The room
Dundee rooms come fully furnished, per UCR's official Room Amenities list, with an extra-long twin bed, a desk and chair, a dresser and closet (or armoire), a microwave, a mini-refrigerator, utilities, and Wi-Fi included; air conditioning and heating are confirmed for Dundee on UCR's amenities chart. UCR's own page explicitly notes that "room and furniture layouts may vary" between units. The hall offers double, triple, and a limited number of single-occupancy rooms -- Inside UCR reported 820 beds across 396 single, double, or triple rooms at opening -- with same-gender and gender-inclusive assignments available, and gender-inclusive options concentrated on Dundee North's 4th floor. As at every UCR residence hall, lofting or altering the bed's height is prohibited; adjustments are made only by designated staff after Housing Services approves a documented medical request. Open-element appliances such as hot plates and toasters aren't allowed in the room.
Day to day
Dundee is UCR's newest residence hall, opening at the start of fall quarter 2020 in two seven-story towers with more than 800 beds; UCR's own page states it is owned by American Campus Communities and operated cooperatively by ACC and UCR Housing Services. Residents share community bathrooms split into male, female, and gender-inclusive facilities -- UCR's amenities chart marks Private Bath as Not Available here, as it does for all four halls. The hall includes a fitness center, mixed-use lounges, and elevators, and sits directly adjacent to the Glasgow Residential Restaurant -- a two-story dining hall with a convenience store and exhibition bakery, per UCR's official hall page. Unlike Aberdeen-Inverness, Lothian, and Pentland Hills, Dundee's Community Features list does not include Amazon Lockers or a computer lab, though the brochure chart does credit it with a Tech Resource Station and 24-Hour Assistance. Laundry runs through the campus-wide WASH-Connect app at $1.75 to wash and $1.25 to dry.
Move-in day
UCR's official Fall 2026 Residence Halls Move-In window is September 19 & 20, 2026; Dundee's specific date and check-in time are announced by Housing Services beforehand, with room assignment and move-in information distributed September 1, and your first meal is dinner with your hallmates on your move-in date. Dundee's two seven-story towers mean elevator access matters more here than at UCR's older, lower-rise halls -- budget extra time for hauling belongings up during peak hours. Dundee is at 680 W Linden Street, on the north side of campus rather than the Canyon Crest Drive side. On-site parking is marked Not Available for Dundee on UCR's amenities chart, and UCR's FAQ states first-year residents are not allowed to bring a vehicle to campus at all, with only an appeal process through UCR Transportation -- confirm your unloading plan with Housing Services ahead of your move-in date.
