Laben Hall Dorm Checklist 2026

UC Davis

Double- and triple-occupancy rooms off a main interior hallway; community bathrooms in clusters of roughly one bathroom per four rooms, spaced every 4-6 bedrooms, majority gender-inclusive

One of the fifteen residence halls UC Davis counts in the Tercero area, on the southwest corner of central campus (Tercero houses about 3,500 students a year). Laben has 4 floors and about 200 students in double- and triple-occupancy rooms. It has no assigned living-learning community. Its first-floor laundry room -- 7 washers, 8 dryers -- is tied for the largest in Tercero, matched by Campbell, Kearney, Potter and Wall Halls; most other Tercero halls have 6 and 6. Named for Robert Laben, professor emeritus of animal science.

  • Laben rooms have their own thermostat, but it adjusts only within a limited range: Tercero buildings are attached to the campus centralized heating and cooling facility, which runs one mode at a time. Cooling operates only when daytime highs consistently exceed 82F, and heating when night-time lows regularly fall below 50F.

Living in Laben Hall: what to know before you pack

The room

Laben Hall rooms measure roughly 10 by 20 feet and house two or three residents apiece, each with an extra-long twin bed, desk, chair, and dresser. The mattress is 36 by 80 by 8 inches -- XL twin sheets, not regular twin. Rather than a traditional built-in closet, Laben's rooms have open concept closets, so bins or a garment rack add useful organization. Bedrooms are carpeted, unlike Miller's laminate, and shared areas mix carpet and tile. Every room includes a MicroFridge combo fridge/microwave, plus wired and wireless network and coaxial/IPTV cable connections. As in every UC Davis hall, beds sit on a three-height frame, and residents may not reconfigure them on their own -- bunking or lofting goes through a Housing Service Request filed in the first two weeks of the quarter.

Day to day

Laben's bathrooms are community-style along the main hallway, spaced roughly every 4-6 bedrooms; UC Davis classifies all Tercero buildings as using bathrooms arranged in clusters of about one bathroom for every four rooms, and the majority are gender-inclusive. The building's first-floor laundry room has 7 washers and 8 dryers, tied for the biggest in Tercero alongside Campbell, Kearney, Potter and Wall -- most Tercero halls make do with 6 and 6. There's no living-learning community assigned to Laben. Mail runs through the Tercero Services Center, where mailboxes and the Package Center sit near the Area Service Desk, and there's no in-room landline. The building has an elevator. On temperature: your room has a thermostat, but its usable range depends on which mode the campus central plant is running, and cooling doesn't start until daytime highs consistently clear 82F -- expect a genuinely warm room during a hot early-September stretch.

Move-in day

Laben Hall's Fall 2026 Moove-In check-in point is Wall Main (Main Lounge), Tercero's designated station -- head there first, not directly to Laben. Appointments run Tuesday September 15 through Thursday September 17, 2026, scheduled through the myHousing Portal once your room assignment email arrives; arrive on the day of and shortly before your slot, and note that anyone arriving after 6 PM checks in at the Area Service Desk instead. Tercero sits on the southwest corner of central campus and is the most centrally located of the three hall areas. If your appointment conflicts with a religious observance, you need an accessibility accommodation, or you simply can't make your slot, Student Housing asks you to email ahead rather than arrive unannounced -- and remember the contract begins the day the room is available regardless of when you show up. Parking, unloading-zone and extended-parking details come from UC Davis Transportation Services.
