Living in Towle Hall: what to know before you pack
The room
Towle is the newest building in Unit 2 by more than four decades, completed in 2005 against the backdrop of the four original 1960 Warnecke high-rises. The defining feature is the mini-suite layout: two bedrooms share a single semi-private bathroom, so your bathroom is shared with one other room rather than an entire floor. Rooms are furnished with the standard Berkeley package — bed frame and XL twin mattress (80"×36"), desk, chair, dresser, mirror, closet, and a MicroChill micro-fridge and microwave. The 2005 construction means slightly more contemporary finishes and infrastructure than you'll find in the 1960s buildings next door.
Day to day
The semi-private bathroom is the headline difference between Towle and every other Unit 2 hall. Instead of coordinating with a full floor of residents, you're splitting the bathroom with just the students in the adjoining room — a meaningful quality-of-life upgrade for morning routines. Like the rest of Unit 2, Towle has no air conditioning and portable units are prohibited; bring a fan for August. Café 3 is the nearest major dining hall for Unit 2, shared by residents of all five buildings. Towle is physically paired with Wada Apartments, but Wada is upper-division housing and not part of the freshman assignment pool.
Move-in day
Towle is part of the Unit 2 complex on the Southside of campus, with move-in in mid-August. The building's 2005 construction tends to mean slightly smoother infrastructure on move-in day — elevators, electrical, and hallway dimensions that were designed with contemporary residence hall use in mind.

- No — Towle Hall has no air conditioning despite being the newest building in Unit 2 by several decades. Towle's 2005 construction provides better insulation than the 1960-era high-rises next door, which helps somewhat, but it does not include a cooling system.
