The room
Ehrman is one of the four original 1960 Warnecke high-rises in Unit 2, built in the same era and the same architectural mold as Cunningham, Davidson, and Griffiths. Rooms are configured as doubles, triples, or singles (limited availability on singles). Furnished with the standard UC Berkeley package: bed frame and XL twin mattress (80"×36"), desk, chair, dresser, mirror, closet, and a MicroChill micro-fridge and microwave. Day to day
Ehrman runs communal bathrooms shared by floor, consistent with every other original Unit 2 high-rise. There is no air conditioning in the building; Berkeley's weather is temperate, but August move-in can be warm enough that a fan belongs on your packing list. Café 3 is the go-to dining hall for the Unit 2 cluster. The Southside address keeps Ehrman walkable to campus academic buildings and to the Telegraph corridor.

- No — Ehrman Hall has no air conditioning, and no building in Unit 2 does. Portable AC units are explicitly prohibited under Berkeley's Residential Code of Conduct, which applies campus-wide. Berkeley's climate is mild for most of the academic year, but move-in week in mid-August in a 1960-era building can feel warm — rooms hold residual heat after sitting closed all summer. - Does Ehrman Hall provide a refrigerator?
- Yes — Berkeley Housing provides a MicroChill unit in every Ehrman Hall room. The MicroChill is a combined appliance: it includes a compact refrigerator and a microwave in a single unit, already set up in the room when you arrive. There is no rental fee and no separate form required — it's a standard provision across all Berkeley freshman halls. You don't need to bring a personal fridge or microwave. What you do need to bring: XL twin bedding sized for an 80"×36" mattress, a desk lamp, a fan, a shower caddy, towels, and toiletries. None of those are furnished.
- What are the bathrooms like in Ehrman Hall?
- Ehrman has communal bathrooms shared by the entire floor — the standard arrangement for all four original 1960 Unit 2 high-rises: Cunningham, Davidson, Ehrman, and Griffiths. There are no semi-private or in-room bathrooms in Ehrman. Sharing with your full floor during the morning rush means timing and patience matter. A hanging shower caddy and shower sandals make the communal setup more manageable. If bathroom privacy is a priority, Towle Hall — the 2005 building in Unit 2 — uses a mini-suite layout where two bedrooms share one semi-private bathroom.
