Living in Christian Hall: what to know before you pack
The room
Christian is one of two newer buildings in Unit 1, built in 2005, and the layout is a real departure from the original four high-rises. Instead of community bathrooms, Christian uses a mini-suite arrangement: two bedrooms share a semi-private bathroom between them. Rooms are still furnished with the standard Berkeley package — XL twin bed (80"×36"), desk, chair, dresser, mirror, closet, and a MicroChill micro-fridge and microwave — but the bathroom situation is a significant step up from the 1960 buildings.
Day to day
The semi-private bathroom means you're sharing with one neighboring room rather than an entire floor, which changes daily-life logistics considerably. For dining, Crossroads café is the main option for Unit 1 residents including Christian; it's a short walk from the building on the Southside.
Move-in day
Christian is in Unit 1 on the Southside near Telegraph Ave, with move-in typically in mid-August. The 2005 construction means a more modern building feel on arrival. No air conditioning anywhere on campus — Berkeley's climate is mild enough that this rarely becomes a real problem, but a fan is still a practical first-night item.
