Living in Putnam Hall: what to know before you pack
The room
Putnam is the fourth of the original 1960 Warnecke high-rises in Unit 1, with the same physical footprint and furnishing package as Cheney, Deutsch, and Freeborn. Rooms are doubles or triples, each with an XL twin bed (80"×36"), desk, chair, dresser, mirror, closet, and a MicroChill micro-fridge and microwave already in the room. The 36" mattress width is slightly narrower than the standard 38" XL twin, so check your sheet dimensions before packing.
Day to day
Bathrooms are community-style, shared by the floor — the standard for all four original Unit 1 towers. Crossroads café is the closest dining option and the one most Putnam residents use regularly.
Move-in day
Putnam is a high-rise with elevators, which helps on move-in day in mid-August, though the elevator lobby gets congested fast. Breaking your load into smaller, manageable trips helps. There's no air conditioning anywhere in the building, and portable units are prohibited — a fan goes in the first box you unpack.
