Living in Huāxyacac: what to know before you pack
The room
Most Huāxyacac first-years are placed three to a room, with quad, double, and single layouts offered in very limited numbers — expect a triple unless told otherwise. Every room comes with Twin XL beds, desks, chairs, and closet or wardrobe storage, plus the university's combination microwave-refrigerator unit. Bed height is fixed as assigned for triples and quads; a paid raise-service request ($50 to raise, $100 to loft) is only offered in the rare single or double. Communal bathrooms sit on each floor rather than in-room, so shower caddies and flip-flops earn their keep here more than in suite-style halls elsewhere on campus.
Day to day
Huāxyacac functions as a full first-year community hub: an Aztec Market convenience store, a coffee shop, shuffleboard, a basketball court, and BBQ pits all sit in the courtyard it shares with Chapultepec. A 24/7 front desk, on-site laundry, study spaces with Wi-Fi, TV streaming, and Wēpa printing round out daily life. Toilet paper is stocked in the communal restrooms here, unlike in several upper-division buildings. Meal plans are required for every resident. Live-in faculty and staff are part of the community, and housing stays available over academic breaks for students who need it.
Move-in day
Huāxyacac residents get one of three assigned Fall 2026 move-in days (August 19–21) sent by email in early July, along with a specific check-in time — arrivals should head to designated lots (P2, P7, P15, or P17) rather than driving straight to the building, since cars that go straight there get redirected. Moving help is limited after 4 p.m., so late arrivals should check in at the community front desk instead. Floor meetings and New Student Convocation follow on August 22.
