Fletcher Hall Dorm Checklist 2026

Kent State University

Doubles only (standard, private-bath and half-bath layouts); communal restrooms with ADA-accessible shower and toilet

Fletcher is a first-year hall in Kent State's Eastway complex. Kent State says Fletcher is comprised of double rooms, houses approximately 245 first-year students, and is co-ed by floor with four floors. Named for Mona Fletcher, PhD, Professor Emerita of Political Science, 1924-1963.

  • Half-lofting -- raising one bed while the other stays flat -- is not supported on the wooden frames, and Housing offers no demonstration or support for it. This is boilerplate on all four Eastway hall pages, not a Fletcher-specific rule.
  • Bathroom setup varies by room. Fletcher's page shows a standard double, a double with a private bath, and communal restrooms with an ADA-accessible shower and toilet -- a private bath is not guaranteed.

Living in Fletcher Hall: what to know before you pack

The room

Fletcher, like the rest of Eastway, is comprised of double rooms; Kent State's Quick Reference Guide lists it under Double Rooms and not under Single Rooms. Each room has two extra-long twin beds (Kent State publishes the mattress as 36 in x 80 in) on loftable frames, desks with shelving, dressers, closets, and a fridge/freezer/microwave unit. Carpeting runs throughout and every room has air conditioning. Fletcher's page shows the same three room diagrams as its Eastway neighbors -- a standard double, a double with a private bath, and communal restrooms with an ADA-accessible shower and toilet -- and Kent State labels the private-bath diagram for 'Allyn, Clark, Manchester, and Fletcher' together, so a private bath is a room type found across Eastway rather than a Fletcher exclusive. Housing's note that the manufacturer does not support half-lofting the wooden furniture appears verbatim on all four Eastway hall pages.

Day to day

Fletcher is co-ed by floor with four floors, carpeted, air conditioned, and exclusively first-year housing -- approximately 245 students -- inside the Eastway complex dedicated in 1963 alongside Allyn, Clark and Manchester. Eastway is the only on-campus area at Kent State that houses first-year students exclusively, and residents who opt into the Eastway Experience theme community are paired with a first-year roommate. Every Kent State hall has its own common-area kitchen with a stove and an elevator, and washers and dryers in each hall or hall complex operate at no additional cost. Fletcher and Manchester are staffed together with Allyn and Clark by a Residence Hall Director, an Assistant Residence Hall Director and fourteen Resident Assistants, and Fletcher runs its own Hall Council. The hall is named for Mona Fletcher, PhD, a longtime Kent State political science professor.

Move-in day

Fletcher's first-year and transfer move-in is Wednesday, August 19 and Thursday, August 20, 2026, on Kent State's published per-floor schedule: Day 1 (Aug. 19) Floor 4 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Floor 2 from 2 p.m.-5 p.m.; Day 2 (Aug. 20) Floor 3 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Floor 1 from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. Even-numbered rooms arrive at the start of the block, odd-numbered rooms halfway through. August 21-22 (10 a.m.-4 p.m.) is the returning-student window, not the first-year one. Bathroom arrangements vary by room in Fletcher, so pack a shower caddy and shower shoes rather than assuming an in-room bath. All standard furniture and the fridge/freezer/microwave unit are pre-installed, making move-in mainly about bedding, storage and decor. Early Arrival requests go through the Housing Portal under 'Housing Forms'; students needing accessible parking or elevator access should coordinate with University Housing ahead of move-in day.

Fletcher Hall FAQ

Does Fletcher Hall have private bathrooms?
Some rooms do, but not all. Fletcher's page shows a standard double, a double with a private bath, and communal restrooms with an ADA-accessible shower and toilet -- and Kent State labels that private-bath diagram for Allyn, Clark, Manchester and Fletcher alike, so it is not unique to Fletcher.
Can Fletcher's beds be half-lofted?
No -- Housing notes the manufacturer of the wooden bed does not support half-lofting, so no demonstration or support is provided. The same note appears on all four Eastway hall pages.
Is Fletcher Hall air conditioned?
Yes -- Kent State states all rooms in Fletcher Hall are carpeted and have air conditioning.
How many students live in Fletcher Hall?
Approximately 245 first-year students, co-ed by floor across four floors.
Is Fletcher Hall a good hall to live in?
That depends on what you're optimizing for, but here's what's verified: Fletcher Hall has Twin XL (36 in x 80 in) beds with Loftable, bunkable of under-bed storage, and is fully air conditioned. Kent State University provides Loftable furniture, fridge/freezer/microwave unit, carpeted rooms, desk and chair, dresser, shelves, closet in every room. Compare those specifics against your priorities — or see how Fletcher Hall stacks up against Kent State University's other halls above.
