What to bring to University of Cincinnatidorms — and what’s already there

Every UCfreshman hall includes the same base furnishings. Skip anything already in your room, pack what’s missing, and leave the banned items at home.

⚠ Residents may not loft, unloft, bunk, or unbunk their own beds -- UC states "For safety reasons, residents are not permitted to adjust their own beds." Housing staff do it, via the Bed Set-Up Request Form, which opens in the housing portal July 20, 2026 and closes at noon July 24, 2026. Requests submitted after move-in can take up to six weeks.

⚠ In Calhoun, Dabney, Daniels, and Siddall Halls specifically, UC prohibits additional microwaves, refrigerators, or micro-fridges "due to the electrical capacities and space limitations of these halls" -- the one university-provided micro-fridge is all you get. Microwave-safe dishes are on UC's allowed list; a personal microwave is not.

⚠ First-year students whose parents live more than 50 miles from the Uptown campus must live on campus unless they file and receive an approved Freshman Exemption. The same form is required in the other direction: students inside the 50-mile radius who want to live somewhere other than their permanent address must also submit it.

⚠ Do not bring your own air conditioner, space heater, or loft kit -- all three are on UC's do-not-bring list, and UC already includes AC and heat in every room.

What size bed do UC dorm rooms have?

Most are Twin XL -- UC publishes Twin XL for Dabney, Daniels, and Calhoun, and notes Twin XL beds are 80 inches long. UC also says some communities have full beds and tells students to check their assigned community for its bed size, so confirm yours before buying sheets.

Is on-campus housing required for UC freshmen?

Yes, for first-year students whose parents live more than 50 miles from the Uptown campus, unless a Freshman Exemption is approved. Students within 50 miles may live at home with their parents instead -- but private rentals or leases are not a permitted option for first-years in either case.

Does UC provide a fridge and microwave?

When is 2026 first-year move-in at UC?

August 18-20, 2026, one shared window for all first-year halls. Each student gets an individual appointment time, viewable in the housing portal starting in late July -- and UC notes your timeslot is your arrival time at your assigned check-in garage, not at your residence hall. Required floor meetings are held on August 20, and classes begin August 24.
