App State Freshman Dorms 2026
App State requires all incoming first-year students to live in a residence hall for the full academic year unless University Housing grants an exemption. First-year halls like Doughton, Cone, Frank, and White are air-conditioned, pair students in double rooms with common bathrooms, and use 60-inch height-adjustable (not bunkable) frames fitted with 80-inch extra-long twin mattresses. Because those frames are the 60-inch adjustable type, bed risers cannot be used on them at all, so plan under-bed storage around the height the frame is set to. Fall 2026 move-in for new first-year and transfer students runs August 11-13, with mandatory hall meetings the evening of the 13th.

What to bring to App Statedorms — and what’s already there
Every App Statefreshman hall includes the same base furnishings. Skip anything already in your room, pack what’s missing, and leave the banned items at home.
⚠ Only University Housing staff may bunk or adjust bed height configurations; students cannot reconfigure beds themselves.
⚠ Bed risers cannot be used on the 60-inch adjustable beds used in Doughton, Cone, Frank, and White, and no bed may be raised higher than 8 inches anywhere on campus; cinder blocks are banned outright.
⚠ Extension cords and multi-plug adapters are banned outright, with no UL-listed exception.
⚠ Operation and charging of e-bikes, hoverboards, electric scooters, and electric skateboards is banned on all university-owned and controlled property, not just inside the halls.
⚠ Microwaves and refrigerators are capped at 1200 watts/10 amps each, with fridges limited to 5 cubic feet, one of each per room.
⚠ First-year students not living on campus without an approved Housing Exemption Form on file are in violation of university policy; 'green transfers' who finished high school under 12 months ago are treated as first-years.

- Are freshmen required to live on campus at App State?
- Yes. All students classified by Admissions as freshmen are required to live in a residence hall for the entire academic year unless University Housing approves an exemption, such as living with a parent or legal guardian within a 30-mile commuting distance.
- Can I bring a microwave and mini fridge?
