Living in Parks Tower: what to know before you pack
The room
Parks Tower rooms are traditional corridor-style doubles: two students share one room off a shared hallway, with communal bathrooms down the hall rather than a private suite bath. Each side gets an XL twin bed on an adjustable loft frame with a side table, a built-in closet and shelving, a shared dresser, and a desk with an overhead carrel that includes power outlets, task lighting, and a dry-erase surface. Window shades and ceiling lights are already installed. A limited number of single rooms are available for students who prefer to live alone, though most incoming first-years are placed in the standard double layout. Because storage is compact, using the built-in shelving efficiently makes the room work better for two people.
Day to day
Parks Tower is UToledo's only all-first-year residence hall, so every neighbor down the hall is starting the same transition at the same time. The building is co-ed by wing and includes shared kitchens, lounges, and study spaces, plus a computer lab, coin-free laundry, a workout room, a 24-hour front desk, vending machines, and outdoor bike storage. It is the home of the Holistic Wellness Living Learning Community, which UToledo describes as open to all students committed to living well-balanced; no other living learning community is named on the hall's official page, so confirm any specific community placement with Residence Life. A 2018 renovation added new kitchens, lounges, study spaces, a new computer lab, an updated lobby, and brand-new furniture throughout the building. Move-in day
First-year move-in at Parks Tower falls on the university's designated first-year day, Thursday, August 27, 2026 (Honors students move in Wednesday, August 26, returning students Friday, August 28). UToledo tells students to watch their UToledo email later in the summer for instructions on selecting an appointment timeslot for their assigned date, so families should plan around that window rather than assuming an open drop-in works.
