- The two beds in a standard Humphreys double are different lengths -- one 36x75 regular twin and one 36x80 long twin -- so coordinate sheet sizes per bed, not per room.
- U of A's handbook (5.1) says the door-side bed is the 36x75 and the window-side is the 36x80, while the official Move-In site's mattress table says the reverse. Do not buy Humphreys sheets on the assumption of a side; measure the mattress on arrival or ask the front desk.
- Humphreys is one of only three halls (with Hotz and Yocum) open on the Aug. 5 general move-in date, and that date carries a $35 early arrival charge.
Living in Humphreys Hall: what to know before you pack
The room
Humphreys doubles mix two mattress lengths in the same room: one bed is a 36-inch by 75-inch regular twin and the other a 36-inch by 80-inch long twin, both about 7.5 inches thick (ADA rooms use the 36x80 long twin for both). That means roommates often need two different sheet sizes, not one set bought together. Be careful about which bed is which: the Residence Hall Handbook's mattress table puts the regular twin on the door side and the long twin on the window side, while the official Move-In site's copy of the same table lists them the other way around. Until U of A reconciles the two, treat bed position as unconfirmed and measure on arrival. Standard furniture includes a bed, desk, and dresser per resident, plus direct wired network access in each room. Beds adjust every three inches from 3 to 71 inches of clearance -- one of the widest ranges on campus -- except ADA rooms, capped at 24 to 59 inches. Bathrooms are community style, shared by others on the floor.
Day to day
Built in 1961 and named for former Dean of Men Allan Sparrow Humphreys, this coed hall is explicitly listed by Housing as available for freshmen and sits in the heart of central campus, next door to the 1021 Food Hall (a two-minute walk) and across the street from the Business Administration Building. Its 432 residents share laundry in the building, a large first-floor lounge, a study lounge on every floor, a front-desk-access kitchen, high-speed ResNet internet, mental health services, an elevator, and a piano. Humphreys also anchors a Living/Learning Community, grouping some residents by shared academic interest. Visiting hours run 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and 24 hours on Friday and Saturday. For a freshman who wants to be close to everything without needing a bus, Humphreys is one of the most central options UArk offers.
Move-in day
Humphreys is one of the few halls that opens on the first move-in day: Aug. 5, 2026 general move-in covers Hotz, Humphreys and Yocum only, and it carries a $35 early arrival charge. Everyone else arrives Aug. 6-8, and move-in continues Aug. 10-14 once the protected parking lots are released. All residents check in at Baum-Walker Stadium at their scheduled time before heading to the building; Humphreys' central location means a shorter drive from the stadium than outlying halls like Pomfret, but its lots still back up at peak hours. Families get 30 minutes to unload at the lot, then no time limit for carrying items up. Arrival times are chosen in the Housing Portal during the June 8-18 window. Because the two beds in a room are different lengths, and because U of A's own pages disagree on which side is which, wait to open your sheet packaging until you have seen the mattress.
