What to bring to Oklahoma State Universitydorms — and what’s already there

Every Oklahoma Statefreshman hall includes the same base furnishings. Skip anything already in your room, pack what’s missing, and leave the banned items at home.

⚠ Homemade or prefabricated bed lofts are banned in every hall; only bed risers up to 7 inches are allowed, and stacking two university frames into a bunk bed is permitted only in Stout Hall and University Commons.

⚠ Freshmen who don't secure an approved housing exemption and don't live in university housing owe the Freshman Noncompliance Fee -- $2,767 per semester, $5,534 for the year at 2025-2026 rates.

⚠ Personal air conditioners, space heaters, and portable washers/dryers/dishwashers are prohibited in every residence hall room, even though central AC is already provided.

⚠ Traditional halls also ban air fryers, toaster ovens, crock pots and Instant Pots, drip coffee makers, espresso machines, electric griddles, ice makers and dehumidifiers -- single-serve coffee makers such as a Keurig are the notable exception that is approved.

Common questions about Oklahoma State University dorms

What size bed is in Oklahoma State dorm rooms?

The four legacy traditional halls -- Iba, Parker, Wentz, and Stout's floors one through three -- each provide one XL twin bed frame and mattress per resident. Stout's 4th-floor private rooms are the exception, with a full-size bed. Bed size in OSU's suites and apartments varies by building rather than following one rule: Bennett Hall, for example, lists XL twin in East and West Bennett but full-size in Center Bennett, so check the specific hall's page.

Can students loft their beds at OSU?

No. Homemade or prefabricated lofts are banned in every hall. Students may raise beds only with risers up to seven inches, and university bed frames already leave 10 to 15 inches of under-bed storage (frames vary by room). Stacking two university-owned frames into a bunk bed is allowed only in Stout Hall and University Commons, and only where the frames meet approved specifications.

What fridge and microwave can students bring?

One refrigerator (5 cubic feet or less, 3 amps or less) per person -- except in Wentz, Iba, and Parker Halls, where the allowance is one per room and may instead be two small refrigerators that together meet the size and amp limits. Microwaves are one per room (900 watts or less) in every hall. Both must plug directly into a wall socket, not a power strip, and micro-fridge rentals are available through University and Student Services.

Are Oklahoma State freshmen required to live on campus?

Yes. First-time freshmen under 21 who are unmarried and without dependents must live in university housing unless they receive an approved exemption or pay the Freshman Noncompliance Fee, which equals two semesters of housing rates -- $2,767 for fall plus $2,767 for spring, $5,534 total for 2025-2026. Transfer students are not required to live on campus.

When is Fall 2026 move-in at Oklahoma State?

General move-in for Fall 2026 is scheduled for August 12-13, with earlier appointment days (Aug. 7 for band, PTP and student employees whose supervisors provide their information; Aug. 9 for sorority; Aug. 11 for Admitted Student Day participants) for specific groups. Dates are subject to change, and every resident selects a move-in appointment time in the OSU Housing Portal.
