Stout Hall Dorm Checklist 2026

Oklahoma State University

Double (floors 1-3) or single (4th fl.), community bathroom, in-room sink

Stout Hall, named for OSU's first Dean of Women Julia E. Stout, is the oldest of the four legacy halls -- constructed 1948, opened 1949 -- and hosts the Honors Living Learning Program for about 320 residents. It's one of only two halls where university-owned bed frames may be stacked into approved-spec bunk beds; that is separate from lofting, which stays banned campus-wide.

  • Bed size differs by floor: XL twin in the floor 1-3 doubles, full-size in the 4th-floor private rooms -- buy sheets only after you know your assignment.

Living in Stout Hall: what to know before you pack

The room

Stout Hall's double rooms on floors one through three measure 12 feet 6 inches by 12 feet 3 inches, each with an in-room sink, a closet 2 feet deep by 2 feet 10 inches wide, and an XL twin bed frame and mattress per resident. The fourth floor offers single-occupancy rooms measuring 12 by 13 feet with an angled ceiling, a full-size bed, an in-room sink, and a wider closet -- 2 feet deep by 4 feet wide. Central heat and air conditioning, mini blinds, and a smoke detector and sprinkler system come standard throughout. Stout is one of only two places on campus -- alongside University Commons -- where university-owned bed frames may be stacked into bunk beds if they meet approved specifications; homemade or prefabricated lofts remain prohibited everywhere, including here.

Day to day

Constructed in 1948 and opened in 1949, Stout is the oldest of OSU's four legacy halls and home to the Honors Living Learning Program and roughly 320 residents. Residents share community bathrooms with private stalls and showers, a community kitchen, free unlimited laundry, a first-floor parlor piano, a movie room, and basement classroom space. Outdoors, Stout Lawn includes a sand volleyball court and BBQ grill, both popular gathering spots. ADA compliant rooms are available, and the hall offers on-site desk services rather than sharing with a neighboring building. Resident lounges with recreation and games serve each floor's wings, giving Honors students dedicated space to study and socialize.

Move-in day

Stout Hall sits on the southwest side of campus near Murray Hall, the Wentz Lane Garage, and the OSU Greek Neighborhood, about a 5-minute walk to Theta Pond and 9 minutes to Colvin Recreation Center. General move-in for Fall 2026 runs August 12-13, after earlier appointment days for band, PTP and student employees (Aug. 7), sorority members (Aug. 9), and Admitted Student Day participants (Aug. 11). Every resident selects a move-in appointment time through the OSU Housing Portal over the summer. Because bed size differs between the floor 1-3 doubles and the 4th-floor private rooms, confirm your room assignment before buying sheets. Central Market Place, Student Union Dining, and Cafe Libro are the closest dining options.

  • Sleep mask + earplugs
