Colorado State University Freshman Dorms 2026

Colorado State University requires newly admitted first-year students (and transfers with fewer than 15 post-high-school credits) who are single, under 21, and not living with their parents in the Fort Collins area to live in the University residence halls for their first two consecutive terms. Rooms across CSU's community- and suite-style halls come with a twin XL bed (39" x 80") on a frame that lofts from a standard 20" low height, plus a desk and chair, dresser, and wardrobe or closet -- but only a few halls are air-conditioned (CSU's rates table marks just Academic Village, Laurel Village, and Summit), so a fan is standard packing. Fall 2026 residence-hall move-in runs August 18-19, ahead of the first day of classes on August 24.

What to bring to Colorado State Universitydorms — and what’s already there

Every CSUfreshman hall includes the same base furnishings. Skip anything already in your room, pack what’s missing, and leave the banned items at home.

Freshmen who are single, under 21, and not living with parents near Fort Collins are required to live on campus for their first two consecutive terms; getting out of it means filing CSU's Request for Exemption from University Living Regulation.

Most CSU residence halls are not air-conditioned -- the rates table marks only Academic Village, Laurel Village, and Summit -- and window AC units and swamp coolers are explicitly banned, so a fan is the sanctioned workaround.

Space heaters, cooking appliances (toasters, air fryers, crock pots, rice cookers), candles/incense, and Command Strips are all banned across every hall.

Common questions about Colorado State University dorms

What size bed and mattress do CSU residence hall rooms have?
Every room comes with a twin XL mattress (39" x 80") on a bed frame that starts at a standard 20" low height and can be raised to a medium or high loft.
Can I bring a microwave and mini-fridge?
Rooms don't include a fridge or microwave, but CSU allows a MicroFridge combo unit (rentable through myMicroFridge) or a small microwave/fridge coordinated with your roommate.
Do CSU dorms have air conditioning?
Most do not -- CSU's own FAQ states 'we do have a few air-conditioned halls, but most of our facilities are not air-conditioned,' and its rates table marks only Academic Village, Laurel Village, and Summit in the Air Conditioning column. Window units and swamp coolers are prohibited everywhere, so bring a fan.
Are freshmen required to live on campus at CSU?
Yes. Newly admitted first-year students (and transfers with fewer than 15 post-high-school credits) who are single, under 21, and not living with parents in the Fort Collins area must live in the residence halls for their first two consecutive terms. Credits earned concurrently with high school and AP credits don't count toward that 15.
When do first-year students move into CSU residence halls for Fall 2026?
Residence hall move-in runs Tuesday, August 18 through Wednesday, August 19, 2026, with individual time slots assigned through the Housing Portal; classes begin Monday, August 24.
