Living in Durward Hall: what to know before you pack
The room
Durward Hall rooms are classic community-style doubles: two students share a room outfitted with twin XL beds (39" wide by 80" long), a desk and chair each, a dresser, and a wardrobe or closet depending on the room. Bathrooms are down the corridor and shared by the whole floor, not attached to the room, so pack a shower caddy and shower shoes. Every bed starts at CSU's standard low height (about 20") and can be raised to a medium or high loft using the Red/Brown Short frame hardware -- residents can do it themselves with a friend, or call housing staff for help during move-in week. A handful of designed singles and corner quads exist, but most first-years land in the standard double.
Day to day
Durward is one of two 12-story 'Towers' on the north side of campus (paired with Westfall around a shared courtyard), housing 450 students with a student community kitchen, laundry, study and meeting spaces, and lounge/rec space. It sits next to Durrell Dining Center, so meals are a short walk, and Moby Arena and the Student Rec Center are close by. Wi-Fi is provided; wired jacks are not available. The hall is not air-conditioned -- CSU's rates table marks only Academic Village, Laurel Village, and Summit in its Air Conditioning column -- so a fan is worth packing for late-August heat. Window units, swamp coolers, and space heaters are all banned as fire hazards, and heat is provided centrally through the winter.
Move-in day
CSU's residence hall move-in for Fall 2026 runs Tuesday, August 18 through Wednesday, August 19, with each resident registering for an arrival time slot through the CSU Housing Portal. Families park in a Move In lot near the hall to pick up room keys and check in (bring ID; RamCards can be picked up on move-in day), then shift to an unloading zone where the vehicle must be moved within 30 minutes of parking -- towing may be enforced. Volunteers are on site to help unload during reservation hours both days. There's no parking on Laurel St., Whitcomb St., Lake St., or Centre Ave. except in the designated move-in areas. Because Durward is a 12-story building, an early or late slot tends to mean a shorter elevator wait.
