What to bring to University of Arkansasdorms — and what’s already there

Every Arkansasfreshman hall includes the same base furnishings. Skip anything already in your room, pack what’s missing, and leave the banned items at home.

⚠ Tampering with or disabling fire-safety equipment (smoke detectors, sprinklers, extinguishers, emergency lighting) carries a $500 minimum restitution plus possible prosecution.

⚠ Burning candles, incense or aromatic herbs in a room is referred to the Office of Student Accountability and may result in a contract review with cancellation, not just a warning.

⚠ Several traditional halls (Yocum, Pomfret, Futrall, and Humphreys) put two different mattress lengths in the same room -- a 36x75 regular twin and a 36x80 long twin -- so buy sheets per bed, not per room. Note that U of A's own pages disagree on which side is which in Humphreys; confirm on arrival before opening the packaging.

⚠ The older community halls run on a two-pipe hydronic system: rooms have fan-coil units and thermostats, but Housing controls the seasonal changeover between heating and cooling centrally, so you cannot call for cool air before the campus-wide switch.

What size beds are in University of Arkansas dorms?

It depends on the hall and bed position. Reid uses a 36"x75" regular twin for both beds. Yocum and Pomfret pair a 36"x75" regular twin on the door side with a 36"x80" long twin on the window side. Humphreys also mixes the two sizes, but U of A's handbook and its move-in site currently disagree about which side gets which, so confirm in the room. Many other halls (Founders, Gibson, Gregson, Holcombe, Hotz Honors, Maple Hill, Adohi) are long twin for both beds. Check the Housing Handbook's bed-size page for your hall before buying sheets.

What should I bring, and what should I leave at home?

Housing provides a bed, desk, chair, dresser, and closet or wardrobe. Bring bedding sized to your exact bed, a surge protector with an internal circuit breaker, a non-halogen desk lamp, and a rubber mallet if you plan to loft. Leave behind candles, incense, space heaters, personal air conditioners, and any open-coil cooking appliance -- the full prohibited list is in Handbook section 1.2.

Can I have a fridge and microwave in my room?

Yes. Each bedroom may have one refrigerator up to 3.2 cubic feet, and each room one microwave up to 0.7 cubic feet. You can also rent a combo MicroFridge through Collegiate Concepts, the vendor University Housing works with, for pickup on move-in day; Housing-managed apartments are not eligible.

Are the dorms air conditioned?

Every residence hall receives cooling, but how it's delivered varies and only some hall pages say so explicitly. Adohi, Clark, Founders, Gatewood, Harding, Maple Hill East/South/West and Morgan have automatic controls. The older community halls -- Reid, Humphreys, Yocum, Pomfret, Futrall, Gibson, Gregson, Holcombe and Hotz -- use a two-pipe system with in-room fan-coil units, where Housing switches the building between heating and cooling seasonally. Walton residents switch their own thermostat between modes. Personal window and portable AC units are prohibited except where Housing installs them.

When is fall 2026 move-in?

Move-in runs Wednesday, August 5 through Saturday, August 8, 2026, and continues August 10-14. August 5 general move-in is limited to Hotz, Humphreys and Yocum and carries a $35 early arrival charge; all communities move in August 6, 7 and 8. Arkansas residents can also pick an early drop-off on July 30 or 31 (Reid residents get both dates; not available for Holcombe, Hotz, Duncan Avenue Apartments or off-campus apartments). Residents check in at Baum-Walker Stadium at their scheduled arrival time, then get 30 minutes to unload at the lot followed by no time limit for carrying belongings in.
