Living in Cougar Village I: what to know before you pack
The room
Each Cougar Village I suite pairs two bedrooms around one private bathroom, with two residents per bedroom and four per suite. Every resident gets an extra-long twin bed, a 42"W x 24"D x 30"H desk with a standard chair, and a 30"W x 24"D x 30"H three-drawer chest, plus a mini-refrigerator already in the room. Windows measure about 41½" wide by 31" tall inside a roughly 2¼" frame — worth knowing before you buy curtains or a window fan. UH does not publish a bed height or under-bed clearance figure for this hall, and self-manufactured lofts are prohibited, so hold off on risers until SHRL confirms what the frames allow. It's a compact but self-contained setup: you share a bathroom with three suitemates rather than a whole floor, and most families only need to add bedding, storage bins, and decor.
Day to day
Cougar Village I is built around themed floors with their own kitchens and lounges, so day-to-day life happens close to home. The first floor packs in a learning center, two computer labs, seminar rooms and classrooms, multipurpose rooms, a fitness center, a game room, laundry, and a convenience store, and the building sits next to the Moody Towers dining hall. Because it's restricted to first-year students, including freshman Honors students and several Living Learning Communities, floor culture skews heavily toward first-year programming, RA-led events, and study groups.
Move-in day
Cougar Village I residents report to the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center during their assigned time slot, complete check-in, receive an unloading pass for the windshield, then follow directional signage to the hall, where volunteers provide unloading assistance. Move-In Time Selection opens July 20, 2026 for the Aug. 19-22 window. Early-arrival requests must be received by Friday, July 31, 2026, and checking in before Aug. 19 incurs daily charges based on room type.
