  • In Slusher Wing rooms 201 through 231, 301 through 331, and 401 through 431, only one of the two beds can go into the high/lofted configuration because of built-in cabinetry — in the remainder of Slusher Wing and in Slusher Tower, both beds may be lofted.

Living in Slusher Hall: what to know before you pack

The room

A typical Slusher double runs 15'9" by 9'7", furnished with twin beds, twin XL mattresses, two desks and chairs, dressers, closets, a sink, and a mirror. The beds are loftable using the room's own furniture — VT does not issue a loft kit, and outside lofts, whether self-built, purchased, or rented, are prohibited along with bed risers. Rooms are traditional-style, with no private bath, so most personal space sits in the footprint of the bed, desk, and storage rather than a shared common room. Because Slusher has no air conditioning, a fan is worth packing alongside the bedding, since Blacksburg's early fall can still run warm, and under-bed bins make sense once a bed is raised.

Day to day

Slusher sits at "Slusher Beach" on the northern residential side of campus, next to the Drillfield, with a large shared "tree lounge" between the Tower and the Wing — chairs, tables, and frequent community-wide events — plus study lounges, common areas, and a community kitchen. Laundry machines are on the first floor of the tower and accept coins or Hokie Passport debit; Laundry Web lets you reserve a machine, see how many are in use, or get a text when a load is done. Dietrick and Owens are the closest dining options, and Slusher is right next to War Memorial Hall, with a beach volleyball court outside in the quad. At 628 residents it is the largest first-year community on campus, home to the GenerationOne, Reach, and Thrive Living-Learning Programs. Visitation runs Sunday-Thursday 10:00 a.m. to midnight and Friday-Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m.

Move-in day

First-year move-in for Slusher falls within Virginia Tech's August 18-20, 2026 window for first-time-in-college and transfer students. Students are emailed in early July about time-slot signup and make their selection in mid-to-late July. Slusher is building #35 in campus quadrant H-5, near War Memorial Hall and Dietrick; VT gives drop-off and parking directions per building, so consult the official move-in map or your hall's individualized instructions rather than assuming a route. Hokie Helpers greet arrivals and give access to moving carts and dollies, though VT notes a handcart or dolly of your own can still be nice to bring for a multi-floor traditional hall like this one.
