What to bring to Radford Universitydorms — and what’s already there

Every Radfordfreshman hall includes the same base furnishings. Skip anything already in your room, pack what’s missing, and leave the banned items at home.

⚠ Beds cannot be both lofted (university kit) and elevated (bookstore bed lift) at the same time — pick one — and cinder blocks are barred as a DIY riser.

⚠ Only fish in a tank of 10 gallons or less are allowed as pets; no other animals.

⚠ Mini-fridges must draw 2 amps or less and microwaves must be rated 700 watts or less, per Radford's own packing page.

⚠ Muse Hall, Radford's oldest dorm (built 1970), is majority non-AC and is being phased out of use by 2028 — the four Moffett Quad halls (Draper, Bolling, Pocahontas, Ingles) all have air conditioning.

⚠ All residence hall students must carry a meal plan — it is not optional — and a default plan is auto-billed to new residents unless changed before classes start.

Is on-campus housing required at Radford University?

Yes — first-time, first-semester students under 21 must live in Radford-operated housing for four consecutive full semesters (two years), with exemptions for students living within 60 miles/an hour's drive, married students or those with dependents, and students with at least one year of active military service.

Can Radford dorm beds be lofted?

Yes — beds are loftable using a university-supplied lofting kit (while supplies last), or can be raised on a commercial bed lift bought separately. A bed cannot be both lofted and elevated at once, and cinder blocks are not allowed as risers.
