Christopher Newport Freshman Dorms 2026

Christopher Newport University requires first-, second-, and third-year students to live on campus, with narrow exemptions for a 25-mile relative commute, financial hardship, an ADA-qualified medical condition, or non-traditional age/marriage/religious circumstances — there's no GPA exemption, and the deadline is June 1. First-years live in one of three halls: Santoro, York River (East and West), and Potomac North. Beds ship fixed by default — a paid, staff-installed loft kit is the only way to raise one, though commercial risers up to 12 inches are allowed on their own. Pick a hall for verified room specs.

What to bring to Christopher Newportdorms — and what’s already there

Every CNUfreshman hall includes the same base furnishings. Skip anything already in your room, pack what’s missing, and leave the banned items at home.

Fire marshal room inspections can happen anytime, announced or not, and violations can mean a fine and/or disciplinary referral.

Repeated or after-hours lockouts can add a fee per instance, plus extra charges for unreturned temporary keys or access cards.

Residents clean their own room and suite bathroom — neglecting it can bring a fine or a disciplinary referral.

The first-year housing exemption deadline is June 1, and once a housing contract is signed no exemption will be granted.
