Living in Caesar Rodney Hall: what to know before you pack
The room
Caesar Rodney's traditional doubles house two residents and come with a Twin XL bed on a frame that adjusts from 6 inches to 30 inches (floor to bedspring), a wardrobe, a dresser and a writing table with chair. UD publishes real dimensions here, which is unusual and useful: the wardrobe measures 36 inches wide by 24 inches deep by 72 inches high with one large drawer measuring 31.75 by 18.75 by 5 inches, and the dresser measures 24 inches wide by 19 inches deep by 40 inches high. That is enough to plan storage and a rug before move-in -- though UD adds that room types and layouts may vary and that furnishings can change at any time. UD lists Caesar Rodney with air conditioning.
Day to day
The building is three connected sections -- Caesar Rodney A, B and C -- joined by brick walkways, with elevators, a second-floor kitchen, third-floor laundry, and lounges on each floor. The main second-floor lounge has a mix of tables and chairs, a piano, and a TV mounted on the wall, which makes it the default gathering spot. Bathrooms are shared on the floors. Caesar Rodney sits on South Central Campus, a separate building from UD's South Central complex (Cannon, Kent, New Castle, Squire and Sussex).
Move-in day
Caesar Rodney residents move in on the shared first-year date, Saturday, August 22, 2026, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a personal appointment time rather than a building-specific day. Every new first-year checks in at the Bob Carpenter Center first for a room key, a dash tag for one vehicle, directions to the unloading zone and a long-term parking map, then unloads at the hall within 15 minutes of arriving, with Blue Hen Helper volunteers on hand. Caesar Rodney's elevators make multi-trip unloading to upper floors faster than in UD's walk-up halls.
