Frostburg State requires first-year and second-year students to live on campus for two years — four consecutive semesters for fall-entry students, three for spring-entry — in the residence halls or Edgewood Commons Apartments. Housing is guaranteed for 1st- and 2nd-year students who apply by May 1. A handful of documented exemptions exist: living with a parent/guardian in Allegany, Garrett, Mineral, Bedford, or Somerset counties, being married, having legal custody of a dependent child, turning 21 before the first day of classes, a documented medical/psychological need, veteran or active military/National Guard status, or other extreme circumstances reviewed case-by-case (financial hardship alone does not qualify). Fall 2026 Move-In Day is Thursday, August 20 — part of Welcome Weekend (Aug 20-23) and capped off with a Welcome Cookout that evening.
