The room

Stevenson single rooms and suite bedrooms run about 14'10" by 9'5" with 7'10" ceilings; doubles are listed larger on NIU's measurements table, though the printed figure appears to contain a typo, so confirm with Housing if exact square footage matters. Each resident gets a Twin XL bed (NIU's longest mattress at 80in, and its thinnest at 6.5in), a lockable wardrobe, a large and a small dresser, a desk with a sliding keyboard tray and movable shelf, and a rolling chair, plus a MicroFridge shared one per two people. Suite-style rooms house four residents across two bedrooms, with some suites including a private bathroom (shower, toilet, sink, under-sink storage) and a living room with a sofa, coffee table and chairs, and others relying on shared hall facilities instead. Beds are set at Junior Loft height of 26in -- the lowest default among NIU's halls -- with a Low Loft option down to 18in.

Day to day

Four 12-story towers give Stevenson the most room-format variety at NIU, from standard doubles to four-person suites, plus specialty communities including the Health Professions House, LatinX House, Wellness Community and TEACH House. Laundry sits in the basement of each tower, and the hall includes the Stevenson retail dining center (All Star Deli, grill and pizzeria), 24-hour computer labs, dedicated study lounges on each floor, and the New Orleans game room. Stevenson sits on the western edge of campus near the sports fields and Student Recreation Center; Huskie Bus Line routes stop at Stevenson North and South about every 30 minutes. Utilities and NIU Wireless are bundled into the room rate, and Stevenson residents automatically receive the Huskie Block 12 plan, usable here and at Gilbert, Neptune and Patterson.

Move-in day

New Stevenson residents move in August 19-20, 2026, by scheduled MyHousing appointment. Because Stevenson offers multiple room formats -- doubles, singles, and two suite variants -- double-check your specific assignment (and whether your suite includes a private bathroom) on MyHousing before packing; if it does, bring cleaning supplies, since suite residents clean their own bathroom. As at every NIU hall, only one vehicle per student is permitted near the towers during move-in (two maximum), and volunteers are available August 19 to help carry belongings in. Note that Stevenson uses your OneCard for building entry but a physical room key for your floor and room, so don't skip check-in.
