University of Illinois Chicago Freshman Dorms 2026
University of Illinois Chicago does not require students to live on campus — housing.uic.edu calls it optional, though it notes the impact of your choice can be great. UIC's four meal-plan-mandatory halls (ARC, Commons South, Commons West, Courtyard) sit on the east side of campus near Student Center East; ARC, opened in 2019, pairs suite- and traditional-style rooms with an attached academic building, while the three Commons-era halls date to the original 1988 residence complex. Every hall has central air conditioning, but personal AC units, all tobacco products, and cannabis in any amount are banned campus-wide. Fall 2026 move-in runs August 20-22.
