Living in Gabaldon Hall: what to know before you pack
The room
Gabaldon's suite layout pairs two double rooms around a shared Jack-and-Jill bathroom with two sinks, a toilet and a box shower — more privacy than the down-the-hall community bathrooms in NAU's traditional halls, and the reason toilet paper becomes your responsibility rather than the university's. Rooms run approximately 168" x 188" and hold two residents as standard, with a discounted triple configuration also offered. Each resident gets a height-adjustable twin bed (36" x 80" x 7" mattress), a three-drawer dresser with drawers measuring 15" x 27" x 5", a built-in closet measuring 42" x 94" x 28", and a desk with chair and three 15" x 5" x 15" drawers. The room adds built-in over-desk shelving and a 3.9 cu ft refrigerator, floors are carpeted, and ethernet and Wi-Fi are wired in. NAU does not list air conditioning among Gabaldon's room features and prohibits bringing your own unit.
Day to day
Gabaldon opened in 1984, once housed student-athletes, and is named for Tony Gabaldon — an NAU alumnus, Flagstaff educator and former Arizona state senator. It houses primarily first-years and sophomores in a suite-style community set among ponderosa pines; NAU's community index files it under South campus, while the hall's own page describes it as centrally located and sitting between central and south campus, with easy access to the Flagstaff Urban Trail System, the J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome and other campus amenities. Inside there are TV lounges and study cubicles on each floor, a community kitchen, a kitchen lounge in the Aspen wing, laundry rooms, a rec room with an outdoor patio and grill, an elevator in the Aspen wing, and a lobby with a fireplace. The FUTS trail runs steps from the door, and there's a large grassy area next to the building.
Move-in day
Gabaldon is on NAU's general fall 2026 move-in schedule, August 19-24, with an early-arrival day on August 18 at $50 per night. NAU's move-in calendar does not assign suite-style or traditional communities to specific days — every day in the window is a general move-in day — so your date comes from the 40-minute arrival appointment you reserve in the Housing Portal, bookable 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Two Gabaldon-specific notes: the elevator serves the Aspen wing only, so check which wing you're assigned to before planning the haul, and because the suite splits shared space between two rooms, message your suitemates first about who brings what for the Jack-and-Jill bathroom — toilet paper included, since NAU does not supply it in suite-style communities. Classes begin August 24, the last day for general move-in.
