Living in Stetson Hall East: what to know before you pack

The room

Stetson East offers standard single and standard double bedrooms in a traditional corridor layout across four floors. Each resident gets a university-provided bed, desk, chair, dresser and closet space, and the bedrooms have tiled (not carpeted) flooring with a window shade included. Rooms are arranged along double-loaded corridors typical of Northeastern's older traditional halls, so expect a compact footprint built around a Twin XL bed, desk and dresser rather than a lounge-style suite. Northeastern doesn't publish room layouts or square footage, so plan storage flexibly. On under-bed storage: don't buy risers or a loft kit -- Northeastern prohibits bed risers and cinder blocks and doesn't allow students to build or take apart lofts, but Facilities will raise a bed on its legs if you submit a work request once you're on campus. Closets are built-in rather than freestanding wardrobes, and since standalone microwaves aren't allowed, most residents either rent a MicroFridge or bring a mini fridge of 3.5 cubic feet or less.

Day to day

Stetson East runs proctor coverage or secured entryways 24 hours a day, and as a Traditional Style building it uses communal corridor bathrooms rather than an in-room or suite bath. Laundry facilities are on site, along with a mixture of small study spaces and large common rooms, vending machines on the main level, an elevator, and a pool table and other game tables on the main level for a low-key hangout spot. The building's biggest perk is Levine Marketplace, one of Northeastern's three main dining halls, which sits inside Stetson East itself -- residents can roll out of bed and be in line for breakfast in minutes. That built-in dining hall also makes the building a natural social hub for the broader Speare/Stetson first-year cluster, since students from neighboring halls pass through regularly.

Move-in day

Stetson East sits at 11 Speare Place, with entrances on both Hemenway Street and Speare Place, in the dense Fenway-adjacent cluster of first-year halls. As of August 17, 2026 Northeastern had not published building-specific Fall 2026 move-in days or times -- the housing office says move-in spans 5-7 days around and over Labor Day weekend (Labor Day is Monday, September 7, 2026) leading up to the first day of classes on Wednesday, September 9, and that per-building dates, parking passes and driving-direction maps "will be posted here in August." Every student receives a specific date and time by Northeastern email based on room assignment, so don't book travel until that arrives; note also that university housing isn't available between the August 16 Summer B move-out and September 1. The building has an elevator but sits on a narrow Fenway-area street, so plan for a short car-to-lobby carry using the moving hampers available on scheduled move-in days -- you'll need a government-issued photo ID to borrow one. Oversized vehicles taller than 6 ft 8 in (including roof racks) and overnight parking are not accommodated.

Stetson Hall East FAQ

Does Stetson Hall East have air conditioning?
Northeastern doesn't list air conditioning among Stetson East's amenities -- unlike International Village, whose page explicitly lists central air -- so plan on it being a non-air-conditioned traditional hall and bring a fan. Student-owned window and portable AC units are prohibited in university housing.
What kind of bathroom does Stetson East have?
Communal, corridor-style bathrooms shared by the floor. Northeastern classifies Stetson East as Traditional Style, which the university defines as "corridor rooms with shared communal bathrooms."
Is there dining in the building?
