Living in Kerr Hall: what to know before you pack
The room
Kerr Hall's first-year rooms are standard double, standard triple and economy double bedrooms, each furnished with a university-provided bed, desk, chair, dresser and closet space. Unlike the tiled floors in Stetson East and Speare, Kerr's bedrooms are carpeted. As a 6-story traditional hall, Kerr is described by Northeastern itself as offering "a smaller close knit community feel" compared with the larger first-year buildings -- a real factor if a student is choosing between halls and wants a quieter, less crowded floor. Triples mean three students split one room's furniture footprint, so storage planning matters. Just don't plan on lifting the beds yourself: Northeastern prohibits bed risers and cinder blocks outright, and students may not build or take apart lofts. As of August 17, 2026, Northeastern had not published building-by-building Fall 2026 move-in dates -- the general guidance is that move-in spans 5-7 days around and over Labor Day weekend (Monday, September 7, 2026) leading up to classes on Wednesday, September 9, with per-building day and time assignments, parking permits and maps to be posted in August and delivered by email. University housing isn't available between the August 16 Summer B move-out and September 1. Because Kerr is a smaller building on a quieter block facing The Fenway, curbside unloading tends to be less congested than at the larger halls, but families should still avoid booking flights or hotel stays until the official Kerr-specific date and time arrive. Moving hampers are available on scheduled move-in days with a government-issued photo ID; oversized vehicles over 6 ft 8 in and overnight parking are not accommodated.
