University of Vermont Freshman Dorms 2026
UVM requires all first-time, first-year students to live on campus for their first four semesters, so nearly every freshman starts out in one of the university's 41 residence halls. Every room ships with an XL twin bed, desk, chair, and dresser already installed, but outside the newest hall almost none of first-year housing is air conditioned, so a box fan matters more than decor. Fall 2026 first-year move-in runs August 26-27, with arrival windows released through the housing portal in early August.

- Every room has an XL twin bed and mattress (36 x 80 x 7.25 in.), already set up with a required safety rail.
- Can I bring a mini fridge or microwave?
- Yes. UVM's move-in guide lists a microwave (700 watts or less) and a refrigerator (4.0 cu. ft., 34 in. or less) among the things to bring; only microwaves above 700 watts are prohibited. If you'd rather rent, UVM partners with MicroFridge for a combined fridge-and-microwave unit delivered to the room -- order by August 10 for guaranteed arrival by move-in.
- Are UVM dorms air conditioned?
- Mostly no. UVM's room-types and tier document lists air conditioning as an amenity for Central Campus Residence Hall only; no other first-year building lists it. Personal AC units are prohibited campus-wide unless approved by the Office of Accessibility Services, so a box fan is the standard workaround.
