Syracuse requires first-year (and second-year) students to live in University housing, and nearly all incoming freshmen are placed in North Campus residence halls -- Day, Flint, Sadler, Boland, Brewster, and Brockway, with Shaw housing a mix of students. Every room comes with an extra-long twin bed, desk, dresser, and closet, but these first-year halls have no air conditioning in the bedrooms -- Brockway Hall is the only building Syracuse lists as air-conditioned -- and personal AC units are banned. Fall 2026 move-in is a self-selected timeslot across a three-day window, August 17-19; first- and second-year residence hall students are also required to carry the Orange Unlimited meal plan.

⚠ The University does not endorse student-constructed lofts or bunk beds and students use them at their own risk; if you build one it must not exceed 5'6" from the floor, must sit 3 feet from windows and at least 18 inches from sprinkler heads, and may not be more than 48 inches wide.

- What size beds are in Syracuse residence halls?
- All residence hall rooms contain extra-long twin (Twin XL) beds unless otherwise stated -- roughly 36" wide by 80" long -- so bring Twin XL sheets, not standard twin. Only Milton Hall (full) and South Campus apartments (full XL) differ.
- Are Syracuse dorms air conditioned?
- Mostly no. Syracuse's housing site flags only Brockway Hall as an 'air-conditioned building'; Day, Flint, Shaw, Sadler, Boland, and Brewster carry no AC designation, and in Day and Flint the University confirms air conditioning is in the lounges but not the bedrooms. Personal AC units are prohibited, so pack a fan.
