Common questions about NYU dorms
- What size bed does NYU use?
- Almost all NYU halls use XL Twin beds. The one exception is Clark Street Hall in Brooklyn (Tandon School), which has standard Twin (75") beds. Check your assignment letter before buying sheets.
- Do NYU dorms have air conditioning?
- Yes — all NYU freshman halls have AC, either building-wide or in the suites. Rubin Hall was fully retrofitted with building-wide AC when it reopened in Fall 2024.
- Can I bring a mini-fridge to NYU?
- Yes — NYU does not prohibit personal mini-fridges. Traditional-style suites already include a shared fridge and microwave; apartment-style halls (University Hall, Third North) have private kitchens. A personal mini-fridge is allowed if you want one.
- Can I bring a toaster or microwave to NYU?
- Toaster ovens and hot plates are prohibited in all NYU residence halls. Apartment-style halls have private kitchens. Traditional-style suites have a shared microwave already provided — don't bring your own.
- When does NYU send housing assignments?
- NYU typically releases freshman housing assignments in late June or early July. Hold off on buying hall-specific items until you have your assignment letter.
