- What size bed do Stony Brook dorm rooms have?
- Residence hall rooms use Twin XL (extra-long twin) mattresses — Campus Residences' own residence hall checklist tells students to bring twin XL sheets and a twin XL comforter. Extra-long twin bedding runs about 80 inches long, so standard twin sheets will not fit.
- Can I bring a microwave?
- No - non-University microwaves are prohibited as heat-generating appliances. The approved route is renting a University MicroFridge (2.13 cu. ft. fridge with a 700-watt microwave, $199.99 plus tax for the year) through Auxiliary Services.
- Can I loft or raise my bed?
- You cannot install your own risers or loft your bed - the Terms of Occupancy state that non-University bed frames, lofts, and lofted beds are prohibited and that the use of bed raisers is prohibited. If you want the bed raised or lowered, submit a request through the University's FIXIT system.
- Are freshmen required to live on campus?
- No. Stony Brook has no blanket on-campus requirement, but Campus Residences says its priority is to house all new first-year students who want to live on campus, and Roosevelt, Mendelsohn, and H are primarily designated as first-year housing.
