Living in Mark Twain Hall: what to know before you pack

The room

Mark Twain's standard setup is a 4-person, 2-bedroom suite: two students share each bedroom, and both bedrooms share one full bathroom inside the suite, not a communal floor bathroom. Housing lists the room as 19'3" long by either 8'6" or 10'11" wide, so it's worth checking your exact assignment before buying furniture. Every resident gets a mattress and pad, desk and chair, nightstand, a freestanding wardrobe (3' wide x 2' deep x 6'6" high) instead of a built-in closet, a bookcase, and a wall-mounted 3'x4' bulletin board. Beds loft up to 60 inches on height-adjustable springs, but Housing's hall page is explicit that they are not bunkable -- plan for under-bed storage bins rather than a bunk-frame setup. Bed rails are available upon request.

Day to day

Mark Twain sits close to Peace Park, the College of Engineering, the College of Business and the Missouri School of Journalism, making it popular with students in those programs. The hall runs its own in-hall dining location, plus an outdoor courtyard, a music practice room with a piano, community printers and computers, vending and ice machines, free in-hall laundry, and 24/7 on-call staff with a Resident Advisor on every floor. The Honors College's own site names Mark Twain as the residence hall Honors students may choose (but are not required) to live in, with dedicated study areas, on-site Honors advising and Honors-exclusive events. Baseline amenities match every Mizzou hall: air conditioning and heating, elevators, high-speed internet, community kitchens, study lounges and electronic exterior door access.

Move-in day

Fall 2026 move-in for new students falls on Aug. 15, 19 or 20; Housing notes some students in programs such as sorority recruitment may move in on Aug. 15, and appointment booking happens in July so residents can pick an arrival time slot. Mark Twain's mailing address is 515 S. 5th St., Columbia, MO 65201, useful for anything shipped ahead of arrival. Because bedrooms come in two different width variants, confirm your specific room assignment before ordering furniture add-ons like a rug or shelving unit.
