University of Missouri Freshman Dorms 2026

Mizzou requires all first-time college students to live in university housing, spreading incoming freshmen across 20-plus residence halls in four campus neighborhoods rather than assigning them to dedicated freshman dorms. Every room comes with an 80-inch twin mattress on a height-adjustable frame, a desk, dresser or wardrobe, a full-length mirror, and air conditioning and heating. Fall 2026 move-in for new students runs Aug. 15, 19 and 20.

What to bring to University of Missouridorms — and what’s already there

Every Mizzoufreshman hall includes the same base furnishings. Skip anything already in your room, pack what’s missing, and leave the banned items at home.

Doors must stay closed and latched at all times -- Fire and Life Safety code prohibits propping them open, even for a short time, and over-the-door hooks or storage that block latching are banned too.

A lost room key triggers a lock change billed at $85 per lock that has to be changed -- a suite with more than one lock can run past $85.

All appliances must be UL-approved, and Housing's prohibited list is specific: toasters, air fryers, Instant Pots, electric grills, pressure cookers, space heaters, portable cooling units and dehumidifiers are all out.

Common questions about University of Missouri dorms

What size bed is in a Mizzou dorm room?
An 80-inch twin-length mattress. Housing's move-in checklist says standard, jersey, extra-long and deep-pocket twin sheets will all work.
Can I bring a mini-fridge and microwave?
Yes -- Housing's policy page allows one compact refrigerator 4.5 cubic feet or smaller and one microwave under 1,000 watts per bedroom. (The move-in checklist words the microwave limit as one per room, so check with your hall if you and a roommate each plan to bring one.)
Are freshmen required to live on campus at Mizzou?
Yes. University policy requires first-time college students to live in university housing. Housing's policy page lists exceptions -- students 21 and older, students enrolled in fewer than six credit hours, fraternity or sorority chapter-house residents, veterans, married or student-parents, and students living with a parent or guardian within 60 miles of campus -- each requiring an approved exemption form.
What can't I bring to my Mizzou dorm room?
Candles, incense and wax warmers, space heaters, portable cooling units, toasters and air fryers, alcohol, weapons, fireworks, electric bikes and scooters, and wifi routers are all on Housing's prohibited-items list, among others.
When do first-year students move in for fall 2026?
Most new students move in Aug. 15, 19 or 20, 2026. Housing notes that some students involved in programs such as sorority recruitment may move in on Aug. 15; move-in appointment times are selected in July.
