UMKC Freshman Dorms 2026
UMKC does not require first-year students to live on campus, but two halls — Johnson and Oak Street — house the university's first-year and underclass residents just blocks from the Kansas City academic core. Every room comes with a loftable twin XL bed, desk, dresser, sink, and a microfridge (mini-fridge, freezer, microwave combo). Students assigned to either hall must also carry a Residential Dining Plan under the 2026-2027 housing contract.

What to bring to UMKCdorms — and what’s already there
Every UMKCfreshman hall includes the same base furnishings. Skip anything already in your room, pack what’s missing, and leave the banned items at home.
⚠ E-cigarette/vaping use inside a residence hall is a $100 fine per documented incident (storage in your room is allowed, use is not).
⚠ Improper checkout — not fully clearing, cleaning, and returning keys — triggers a $65 fee, separate from lock-change charges.
⚠ Missouri state law (RSMo § 174.335) requires every student living in on-campus housing at a Missouri public university to show proof of a meningococcal vaccine within the last 5 years, or file a medical/religious exemption, before moving in.
⚠ Cancellation fees are tiered by date under the 2026-2027 contract — free for new residents who cancel by May 1, 2026, rising to $300 plus nightly rate once check-in has started, with no way to cancel penalty-free after move-in begins.
⚠ Neither Johnson Hall nor Oak Street Hall states air conditioning on UMKC's own housing pages — pack a fan as a precaution until Residential Life confirms your room's cooling.
