Living in Hatch Hall: what to know before you pack

The room

Hatch is community-style with single and double rooms. A typical double measures 13'5" x 11'8" with a shared four-drawer dresser and a closet 2'6" wide x 2' deep; a typical single runs 15'6" x 11'7" with its own dresser and a larger closet at 3'10" wide x 2' deep. Doubles get a 36-inch bunkable bed with height-adjustable springs; singles get a 36-inch bed on height-adjustable springs, though Housing's page doesn't apply the bunkable label to the single-room bed. Bed rails are available upon request. Every resident also gets a mattress and pad, desk and chair, a study hutch with task light and bulletin board, nightstand, wall-mounted 3'x4' bulletin board, full-length mirror, and open closet shelving with no doors.

Day to day

Hatch sits next to the historic Dairy Lawn, close to the College of Veterinary Medicine and a short walk from Buck's Ice Cream. It's named for William Hatch, a former U.S. Representative from Missouri who sponsored the Hatch Act of 1887, which established State Agricultural Experiment Stations across the country. Amenities include an outdoor courtyard, a recreation lawn, covered bike parking, community printers and computers, a music practice room with a piano, vending and ice machines, electronic room access, and free in-hall laundry. Air conditioning and heating, elevators, community kitchens, study lounges and 24/7 on-call staff are standard, same as every Mizzou hall.

Move-in day

New-student move-in falls on Aug. 15, 19 or 20, 2026; appointment times are selected in July through the Housing portal. Hatch's mailing address is 1306 E. Rollins St., Columbia, MO 65201. The covered bike parking is worth knowing about ahead of move-in day if a bike is coming along -- note that Housing policy bars electric bikes and scooters from its buildings entirely, and non-electric bikes may be stored in the room only with roommate permission. Because double-room closets are narrower (2'6" wide) than single-room closets (3'10"), double residents may want slim, stackable storage rather than a bulky wardrobe trunk.
