Living in Northwest: what to know before you pack

The room

Northwest is six buildings — Batterson, Goodyear, Hanks, Rogers, Russell, and Terry — each four floors, offering singles and doubles across single-gender and co-ed floors. Every room has the standard XL twin bed (80" x 36"), desk, chair, and dresser, but unlike most other traditional areas at UConn, Northwest beds bunk or sit on the floor only: the housing site lists "No loft beds" for this quad. Floor gender policy varies building by building — Batterson is co-ed on all floors, Terry is single-gender on all floors, and Goodyear, Hanks, Rogers, and Russell mix the two by floor. Two Learning Communities are based here, Pharmacy and First Gen, and the quad houses over 1,000 students across a mix of class years rather than a single-year cohort.

Day to day

Laundry is on the first floor of every building, and a game room sits in Batterson Hall alongside outdoor basketball, a tennis court, and a ball field — the latter two part of the newly renovated North Park. The closest dining options are the Northwest and North Dining Halls, and a meal plan is required. Mail is handled through a mailroom in Russell Hall. There are 24 Resident Assistants led by 2 Residence Hall Directors, and the buildings have elevators. As of Fall 2026, Terry and Rogers are the only two of the six buildings with air conditioning; Batterson, Goodyear, Hanks, and Russell remain without it, so a fan is essential in those four.

Move-in day

First-year residents move in on either August 27 or 28, 2026, by individual assignment; upper-class and transfer students move in August 29-30, which matters more here than in other quads because Northwest houses a mix of class years. Northwest has premium resident student parking on site at 110 N. Eagleville Road, which makes unloading more convenient than in quads without on-site lots. The Blue and Green bus lines serve the area, and the area office is in Batterson Hall, first floor. Because bed frames here bunk or sit on the floor only, plan furniture arrangement around that — do not buy a setup that assumes a lofted bed with storage underneath.
