Living in Barr Hall: what to know before you pack
The room
Like its BAMM-complex neighbors, Barr Hall's rooms average 18 by 12 feet and come as traditional doubles or singles, each with a twin extra-long bed and mattress, closet space, a dresser, desk, chair, mirrors, blinds or curtains, and a built-in microfridge. Whether the bed frames can be lofted isn't stated on Barr's housing page the way it is on Allen's next door — and Mattia's page is silent on it too — so confirm with Residence Life before buying loft hardware rather than assuming the BAMM halls match. Carpeted floors and WiFi throughout are standard, and bathrooms are communal, shared by floor and separated by gender.
Day to day
Barr houses 220 students across four floors and, along with Allen, Metzger, and Mattia, forms the BAMM complex on Busch Campus. Barr is the one of the four where Rutgers specifically publishes School of Engineering Housing and the School of Engineering Honors Academy, whose honors living-learning community first-year engineering students are eligible for. Residents share a main lounge, floor lounges, vending machines, a laundry facility, and recreation including a pool table, table tennis, and foosball. Busch is Rutgers' science and engineering hub, connected to the rest of New Brunswick by the free campus bus system.
Move-in day
New first-year and transfer students move into Barr Hall on August 26, 2026 — a day later than Allen next door, so don't assume the BAMM halls share a date. Arrival is staggered by floor: 4th floor 8:00–10:30 a.m., 3rd floor 10:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m., 2nd floor 1:00–3:30 p.m., and 1st floor 3:00–4:30 p.m. Keys are picked up at Barr Hall itself. Approved early arrivals move in August 23 and new Rutgers Global international students on August 24; continuing students move in August 28–31.
