What to bring to Drexel Universitydorms — and what’s already there

Every Drexelfreshman hall includes the same base furnishings. Skip anything already in your room, pack what’s missing, and leave the banned items at home.

⚠ Drexel's 2-Year Residency Program requires first- and second-year undergraduates to live in Drexel housing; commuting requests for incoming first-years are authorized by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

⚠ Towers Hall is not available for housing for the 2026-27 academic year, though it still appears on Drexel's first-year housing index page.

⚠ Lofts of any type are not permitted unless issued by the University, and bed risers and cinder blocks are on the non-permitted items list -- the university frame's own 36-inch maximum height is the only way to raise a bed.

⚠ Removing a window screen from a residence hall room results in a per-screen fine; all window equipment and screens must be kept in position at all times.

What size bed is in a Drexel dorm room?

An extra-long twin. Drexel publishes bed dimensions per hall -- 79in x 39in in Kelly and North, 80in x 36in in Millennium and Race Street Residences -- and the packing list calls for extra-long twin sheets.

Can I loft or raise my bed at Drexel?

Only using the frame itself. The university bed's height adjusts to a 36-inch maximum, but Drexel's Residential Facilities Policies prohibit lofts of any type unless issued by the University, and bed risers and cinder blocks are both on the non-permitted items list. Note the 36 inches is the top of the bed, not the clearance underneath it.

Do Drexel dorms have air conditioning?

Yes -- all of Drexel's open first-year halls are air conditioned, but the system varies: Kelly Hall is self-regulated per room, Millennium Hall runs central A/C and heat building-wide, and North Hall and Race Street Residences have self-regulated central A/C and heat.

Can I bring a microwave and fridge to my Drexel dorm?

Yes, within limits: microwaves must not exceed 700 watts and refrigerators must not exceed 2.9 cubic feet or draw more than 1.5 amps. Drexel asks for only one appliance per two students, and Microfridge rentals can be delivered to the room before move-in.

Is on-campus housing required for freshmen at Drexel?

Yes -- under the 2-Year Residency Program, first-year students must live in a Drexel residence hall on the University City campus, and the requirement continues into the second year. Commuting requests for incoming first-years go through the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

When do first-year students move in for Fall 2026?

Move-In Weekend is September 12-13, 2026 for first-year and transfer quarter students -- one shared window for all halls, not a per-hall day. Individual arrival dates and times post to each student's Housing and Dining portal starting in August. Returning students move in September 19-20.
