Living in Gresham Complex: what to know before you pack
The room
Gresham Complex, split between Gresham Main and Gresham East, is one of the few ODU halls offering both single and double-occupancy rooms rather than doubles only. Every resident gets an Adjustable Extra Long Twin bed (36 in x 80 in), a desk, chair, dresser, and a closet with a clothes rod and shelf, plus an in-room sink and mirror. Bathrooms sit down the hall and are shared one per four students, each furnished with one toilet and one shower with a curtain. ODU lists Gresham Main at 298 residents and Gresham East at 135. The complex is air-conditioned, and the Community Learning Center in Gresham Main gives residents a technology-equipped space for studying and academic collaboration. As with Rogers, ODU's Gresham page lists the beds as adjustable but never describes them as bunkable the way the Whitehurst page does — check with your RA before stacking beds.
Day to day
Gresham sits beside Rogers Complex in the Residences at Colley Bay, close enough to Monarch Way and ODU's theater district for an easy walk to food and shops, with a convenience store and late-night grill among its own listed features and Rogers Dining Hall in the neighboring lobby. Unlike Rogers, ODU's page for Gresham doesn't call it a freshman hall, but it shares the same room types and neighborhood — worth confirming your specific assignment mix with Housing & Residence Life if that distinction matters for your family. Alcohol is not permitted in Gresham at any age; note that ODU's contract names Gresham and Rogers as alcohol-free but not every Colley Bay address, since Foundation House and the Nusbaum apartments aren't on that list. Residents get 24-hour desk service, ID-card access, laundry rooms, housekeeping for community areas, kitchenettes on designated floors, study spaces and shared lounges on each floor, a required dining plan, and a 9-month fall-and-spring contract.
Move-in day
First-year and new students assigned to Gresham Complex move in August 20, 2026, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., checking in at the Big Blue Room in Chartway Arena before heading to Colley Bay alongside Rogers residents. With both Gresham buildings checking in at roughly the same time as neighboring Rogers — well over 800 residents across the two complexes — expect Colley Bay's parking and loading areas to be busy, so arriving earlier in the window can mean a shorter carry-in line. Because Gresham offers single rooms as well as doubles, confirm your room type ahead of time so you know how much furniture and storage space you're actually working with before you pack the car. ODU's housing calendar lists a residential floor meeting on August 23 from 5 to 7 p.m.
