Living in Juniper Hall: what to know before you pack

The room

Juniper's standard room is a double that lofts and adjusts like the rest of NMSU's first-year halls, with a Twin XL bed and mattress (35 x 80 inches), two desks and chairs, two small and two large dressers, and a shared suite bathroom with a single sink and private toilet/shower area between two adjoining rooms. NMSU's rates page also lists a Triple/Quad Occupancy rate for Juniper, so a limited number of larger rooms exist, though the hall page describes only doubles and NMSU does not publish how many triples or quads there are. The published furniture list is the same loftable, adjustable set regardless, so the bed policy doesn't change by room size. Residents still need to bring their own Twin XL bedding, a mini fridge (6 cubic feet max), and a microwave; laundry is available on every floor.

Day to day

Juniper is designed to push residents into shared common space -- a large grassy courtyard for outdoor studying, floor lounges and a lobby area, and computer access areas rather than isolated room life. It sits on North Campus near Corbett Center Student Union, with a 24-hour service and security desk close by and mail delivered to the North Campus mail distribution center in neighboring Garcia Hall. Juniper hosts the Trailblazers Living Learning Community. Like every first-year hall at NMSU, Juniper is alcohol-free for all residents regardless of age. The hall is ADA compliant with elevator access, and its suite layout keeps social contact concentrated among the two rooms sharing a bathroom rather than a whole floor.

Move-in day

Fall 2026 move-in weekend at NMSU ran August 15-16, with timeslots released through the MyHousing portal by August 3. Because Juniper's rate sheet includes a triple/quad option alongside its doubles, families assigned to one of those larger rooms should expect more roommates' belongings arriving in the same window -- coordinate with suitemates ahead of time if the room is a triple or quad. Juniper's elevator access and wide hallways make hauling bins manageable, and the North Campus mail distribution center and service desk in Garcia Hall next door handle mail and package pickup for Juniper residents. As with every hall, confirm the assigned timeslot and check-in location on MyHousing before arrival since logistics can shift year to year.
